FG Targets 24-Hour Power Supply for Hospitals by 2027

On Tuesday, the Federal Government of Nigeria approved a financing framework and institutional reforms to enhance electrification in health facilities, targeting reliable 24-hour electricity for at least 30% of these facilities by the end of 2027. This decision was made during the third meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Steering Committee of the Nigeria Power for Health Initiative, a program coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and the Federal Ministry of Power.

Dr. Iziaq Salako, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, announced that the committee endorsed new governance structures and approved eight private sector proposals from about 70 submissions received during the National Healthcare Electrification Investor Matchmaking Week in Lagos. The initiative aims to deliver uninterrupted electricity through public-private partnerships, with various energy technologies deployed based on individual facility needs.

Energy Management Teams have been established in federal tertiary hospitals, and state governments are encouraged to do the same.
