FG Approves ₦24.6 Billion Overhaul of MKO Abiola Stadium

The Federal Government has approved a significant overhaul of the MKO Abiola Stadium, as announced by the National Sports Commission (NSC). This initiative will involve a complete renewal of the main pitch and tartan track, alongside upgrades to key facilities within the stadium complex.

The project includes rehabilitation of the dressing rooms, media center, VIP corporate suites, public address and security systems, and restoration of the roof membrane. The NSC chairman, Mallam Shehu Dikko, stated that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu's vision for using sports to empower youth and promote economic growth through infrastructure development.

The Federal Government has earmarked ₦24.6 billion for broader structural rehabilitation. Additionally, the initiative will establish a high-performance center, a 200-bed athlete hostel, rehabilitate the swimming pool, construct two new training pitches, and install international standard floodlights and video assistant referee technology.

NSC Director General Bukola Olopade described the initiative as a comprehensive approach to developing sports talent and creating jobs.
