FG Approves N7 Trillion for Major Infrastructure Projects

On Thursday, the Federal Executive Council approved a N7 trillion contract for ten major infrastructure projects spanning six geopolitical zones in Nigeria. This includes a N1.86 trillion extension of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway in Akwa Ibom State and a N548.98 billion contract for the complete demolition and reconstruction of the Carter Bridge in Lagos.

Minister of Works Dave Umahi announced these approvals during a press briefing, highlighting that this is the largest batch of road projects approved under President Bola Tinubu's administration. Other notable projects include the N1.79 trillion section of the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway and the reconstruction of the Mando-Birnin Gwari road in Kaduna State, which is a 122.8-kilometer project costing N178.12 billion.

The Carter Bridge project will involve a total length of 1.525 kilometers and a three-lane dual carriageway, with a contract sum of N548.98 billion awarded to CCCC. The council also approved the fifth section of the Sokoto-Badagry Expressway, which will be financed externally.
