Nigeria's Federal Government Launches Rural Connectivity Towers

On October 17, the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, commissioned the first of 3,700 sites under the Nigeria Universal Communication Access Project (NUCAP) in Bende, Abia State. Minister Dr Bosun Tijani stated that the project aims to provide reliable broadband and communication services to unserved and underserved rural and riverine communities across Nigeria.
He emphasized the project's potential benefits in education, commerce, agriculture, and healthcare. Tijani commended Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu for attracting the project to Bende, highlighting the importance of connectivity for nearly 20 million people in the area.
Kalu described the commissioning as a new opportunity for clearer communication and successful transactions. Akeem Adeshina, Chief Commercial Officer of IHS Nigeria, noted the milestone in expanding digital access and mentioned that GICL, a subsidiary of IHS Towers, would support the deployment of rural telecommunications infrastructure across several states.
