Nigerian Government Launches NUCAP Tower in Abia State

The federal government launched the Nigerian Universal Communications Access Project (NUCAP) tower site in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State. This initiative aims to construct 3,700 telecommunications towers to provide access to over 20 million unreached and underserved Nigerians.

The launch was facilitated by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and delivered by Global Independent Connect Limited, a subsidiary of IHS Towers. Key attendees included Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, and Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani.

Funded through the Universal Service Provision Fund, the project will also implement Public Wi-Fi and Smart Village solutions across several states. Tijani emphasized that connectivity is crucial for economic opportunities and community development.

Akeem Adeshina, Chief Commercial Officer of IHS Nigeria, highlighted the importance of connectivity as an enabler of opportunities. The first tower in Bende is expected to be operational before Christmas.
