FG Expands Telecom Network Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a new initiative to enhance telecommunications and broadband access across underserved communities in preparation for the 2027 general elections. This initiative is part of the National Universal Communications Access Programme (NUCAP), as announced by Dr Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, during an interactive session in Abuja.

The program aims to connect areas with inadequate commercial network coverage, particularly targeting rural communities. Bende Federal Constituency in Abia State is one of the prioritized areas, with a new telecommunications tower nearing completion along the Umuahia–Ohafia Road.

This facility is expected to significantly improve connectivity for surrounding communities. The project responds to concerns raised by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, who represents Bende Federal Constituency.

The ministry plans to collaborate with Kalu and other stakeholders to identify further infrastructure needs after the tower becomes operational.
