Nigeria Begins Evacuation of Citizens from Iran Amid Tensions

The Federal Government of Nigeria has commenced the evacuation of Nigerians in Iran amid rising tensions in the Middle East, which escalated following military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iranian units. This situation has raised fears of a broader conflict.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, the Chairman of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, disclosed that the evacuation is being coordinated through the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, which is facilitating safe passage for Nigerians wishing to leave the country across the Armenian border. Dabiri-Erewa reassured that no Nigerians in Iran have been affected by the ongoing tensions.

The embassy officials remain stationed at the border to assist evacuees. The evacuation follows a crisis that began on February 28, triggered by retaliatory missile and drone attacks across the region.
