Nigeria Faces Challenges in Repatriating Citizens from Iran

The Nigerian government is currently addressing logistical hurdles in repatriating citizens stranded in Iran and Qatar amid escalating tensions in the region. Kimiebi Ebienfa, spokesperson for the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, disclosed that the government is prioritizing the safety of Nigerians affected by the situation.

Various options are being explored to assist these citizens, particularly students trapped at the Armenian border due to entry conditions set by Armenian authorities. The government is considering providing emergency support, including food and warm clothing, given the difficult weather conditions.

However, evacuating Nigerians from Iran presents logistical challenges, including transport issues and the need for safe flight arrangements. Qatar Airways has been accommodating stranded transit passengers in Doha, providing meals and hotel accommodations.

The Nigerian embassy in Doha is actively engaging with stranded citizens to explore viable return options. The Ministry has cautioned Nigerians against traveling through Saudi Arabia due to visa and logistical challenges.
