FG Launches 1.6MW Solar Mini Grid at FUTI, Ogun State

The Federal Government has initiated the construction of a 1.6MW solar mini grid at the Federal University of Technology, Ilaro, Ogun State, previously known as Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro. This project is part of efforts to enhance power supply for teaching, research, and innovation, funded by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).

The solar mini grid is designed to occupy approximately three acres of land and will provide stable electricity to support academic activities and sustainable energy upgrades. The project aims to significantly reduce the institution's reliance on the national grid.

The announcement was made by Olusola Abiala from the university's public relations office. Dr.

Mukail Akind, the acting Vice Chancellor, emphasized that uninterrupted power supply is essential for technological advancement and innovation. The project is being executed by Zango Corporate Innovations Limited, with Engr.

Omofuma O. leading the management team. The initiative has received support from President Bola Tinubu and TETFund Executive Secretary Sonni Echono.
