Nigeria Commends Local Production of Mosquito Nets

The federal government of Nigeria commended Health Textiles Nigeria FZE for its operations in producing next-generation insecticide-treated mosquito nets, a development described as a significant milestone in the country's malaria prevention efforts. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof Muhammad Ali Pate, made this statement in Abuja, emphasizing that the local production of dual-active ingredient insecticide-treated nets is crucial for Nigeria's health system and its national response to malaria.

This initiative follows a 2024 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Vestergaard and the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain (PVAC), which aims to bolster local production capacity for essential health products. Prof Pate noted that this development supports the federal government's commitment to enhancing health security by fostering domestic manufacturing capabilities, creating jobs, and strengthening the healthcare value chain.

Dr Abdu Mukhtar, the national coordinator of PVAC, highlighted the importance of aligning investment, technology transfer, and government policy to develop sustainable local manufacturing capacity.
