Nigeria Launches Local Production of Mosquito Nets

Nigeria has commenced the local production of dual-active ingredient insecticide-treated mosquito nets, a significant step in malaria prevention and domestic health product manufacturing. The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare announced this development in a statement signed by Assistant Director Ado Bako.

The new facility, Health Textiles Nigeria FZE, wholly owned by Vestergaard Sàrl, is the first in Nigeria to manufacture these specialized nets. It will produce PermaNet Dual, which addresses insecticide resistance and is prequalified by the World Health Organisation in 2023.

At full capacity, the facility is expected to produce around 10 million nets annually and create over 600 jobs, with about 80 employees currently undergoing training. Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, stated that this initiative aligns with the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative, emphasizing the importance of local production and investment in healthcare.

The establishment of Health Textiles Nigeria follows a 2024 Memorandum of Understanding between Vestergaard and the Nigerian government to enhance local production capacity for essential health products.
