Harvestfield Launches Local Production of Malaria Nets

Harvestfield Healthcare FZE has commenced the commercial production of Synera DuoForte, a next-generation insecticide-treated net, in Nigeria. This initiative marks a significant advancement in the country's ability to manufacture essential malaria prevention tools locally.

The nets are produced under a manufacturing agreement with GDM Health Products and incorporate a dual active ingredient approach, combining a pyrethroid with a second insecticide to combat resistance seen in mosquito populations. The World Health Organisation recommends these nets for areas with established pyrethroid resistance.

Synera DuoForte is a WHO-prequalified product, with Harvestfield's Ogun State facility also certified by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and ISO certified. Jon Bastow from GDM Health Products praised the partnership, emphasizing its importance in addressing Nigeria's malaria burden.

Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, highlighted the initiative's alignment with Nigeria's health security goals, while Dr Abdul Mukhtar from PVAC noted the importance of local manufacturing in the healthcare value chain.
