Nigeria's Power Minister Launches Solar Mini-Grid in Kwara

On September 25, 2026, the Federal Government of Nigeria, represented by Minister of Power Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, inaugurated a 581kWp interconnected solar mini-grid project in Oke-Oyi, Ilorin East Local Government Area, Kwara State. This initiative is part of the Rural Electrification Fund – Interconnected Mini-Grid Acceleration Scheme (REF-IMAS) by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).

Developed by Nayo Tropical Technologies Limited with support from the German Cooperation and the European Union (EU) through GIZ, the project features 1,336 solar panels and 84 batteries, serving a community of approximately 13,000 people. Tegbe emphasized that the project aims to improve lives and create economic opportunities, linking energy access to economic development.

Kwara State Governor Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by Hon. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu, praised the Federal Government's efforts in enhancing reliable electricity access, which is vital for community development. REA's Managing Director Abba Abubakar Aliyu also reaffirmed the agency's commitment to deploying effective electricity infrastructure.
