Nigeria Commissions Aviele Model Veterinary Hospital in Edo

The Federal Government of Nigeria commissioned the Aviele Model Veterinary Hospital located in Etsako West Local Government Area, Edo State, as part of efforts to modernize veterinary healthcare and improve livestock production, thereby strengthening food security across Nigeria. During the commissioning ceremony, the Minister of Livestock Development, Idi Mukhtar Maiha, described the facility as a major milestone in the federal government's livestock transformation agenda and the Renewed Hope Programme of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The hospital was constructed with assistance from the World Bank under the Livestock Productivity Resilience Support Project. It aims to enhance access to quality animal healthcare services and boost livestock production for economic development.

According to a statement by Deputy Director of Information Public Relations, Henrietta Okokon, seven model veterinary hospitals have already been completed in Edo, Adamawa, Sokoto, Enugu, Niger, Ondo, and Borno states, with 14 hospitals at different stages of completion across participating states. Maiha emphasized the need for continuous training of veterinary personnel to ensure effective operation and long-term sustainability of the hospital.
