Nigeria Launches 40M-Dose Vaccine Hub in Edo State

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched a 40 million-dose veterinary vaccine storage hub in Edo State, a significant initiative aimed at strengthening disease prevention and improving livestock productivity in the region. Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Federal Minister of Livestock Development, stated that the facility will enhance food security in Nigeria by ensuring reliable vaccine storage and distribution.

The hub, equipped with solar power, has the capacity to preserve vaccines effectively and will support the combat against transboundary animal diseases such as bovine pleuropneumonia, foot-and-mouth disease, Newcastle disease, African horse sickness, and African swine fever. Prof. Ignatius Ikponmwosa Omorodion, the Edo State Commissioner for Livestock Development, described the project as a historical milestone that will serve six states in the South-South geopolitical zone.

The initiative aligns with global health agendas promoting animal health, public health, and food safety.
