FG Declares April 3 and 6, 2026, Public Holidays for Easter

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared April 3 (Friday) and April 6 (Monday) in 2026 as public holidays to facilitate the celebration of Easter by Christians across the country. This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the federal government.

The statement was issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Interior, Magdalen Ajani. In his message, Tunji-Ojo congratulated Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora, highlighting that the Easter period reflects enduring values such as sacrifice and renewed hope.

He urged Nigerians to emulate virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, patience, and love as demonstrated in the life teachings of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, he called on citizens to strengthen the spirit of tolerance, unity, and peaceful coexistence, stressing the importance of these values for national cohesion.

The minister also extended wishes for peace and joy to Christians during the Easter celebrations, which commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, symbolizing victory over death and the promise of new life.
