Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, serving as Minister of Interior, made this proclamation representing the administration. The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr.
Magdalen Ajani, formally communicated the decision through official channels. This proclamation recognizes June 12 as holding deep significance within Nigeria's democratic narrative.
The day commemorates the resilience, bravery, and sacrifices of Nigerian citizens instrumental in building and maintaining democratic rule throughout the nation. Nigeria is currently experiencing 27 years of uninterrupted democratic governance, which this holiday marks.
