FG Launches 3,700 Telecom Towers to Connect Millions

The Federal Government has begun deploying 3,700 telecommunications towers across Nigeria as part of the National Universal Communications Access Programme (NUCAP), targeting approximately 20 million Nigerians without telephone and internet access. This initiative was announced by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, during the commissioning of a NUCAP tower along Umuahia–Ohafia Road in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State.
The project aims to enhance mobile and broadband connectivity in underserved communities, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to integrate unconnected communities into the digital economy. Tijani emphasized that reliable telecommunications services are crucial for economic activities and access to essential services.
Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, noted the importance of connectivity for financial inclusion, education, and healthcare in rural areas, stating that improved telecommunications infrastructure would facilitate access to financial services and educational resources.
