FG Deploys Security Team for Lagos-Calabar Highway

On Sunday, the Federal Government, through the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, inaugurated a security team consisting of 40 officers to protect the Lagos-Calabar highway. This 750-kilometre, 10-lane highway connects Lagos with Cross River and passes through Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom states.

The initiative was announced by Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor. The security team, led by retired General Adekunle Shodunke, is tasked with maintaining a security presence, reporting suspicious activities, and preventing vandalism, hawking, and unauthorized transportation methods along the highway.

Umahi emphasized that this deployment is a full-time security assignment aimed at protecting national assets, not an empowerment program. He expressed concerns over illegal activities affecting the highway, including the removal of construction materials.

The Minister directed the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos to enforce regulations against unauthorized users of the highway.
