Federal Government Deploys Coastal Road Guards in Lagos

The federal government has launched a security initiative to address vandalism along the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway by inaugurating 40 Coastal Road Guards. This initiative was announced by Mr.

Olufemi Dare, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, during a ceremony in Lagos on Thursday. The guards will be equipped with motorcycles fitted with tracking devices to ensure they are used exclusively for official duties.

This measure comes in response to ongoing theft and damage of critical infrastructure, such as manhole covers and directional signs, which have been repeatedly targeted by vandals. Dare emphasized the need for a dedicated security outfit to provide continuous surveillance and protect public assets.

The guards have undergone training by the Nigeria Police Force and are tasked with enforcing traffic regulations and preventing illegal activities along the highway. They are expected to operate with discipline and professionalism, with accountability measures in place for any misconduct.
