FG Launches Coastal Highway Guards to Enhance Security

The Federal Government has initiated the Coastal Highway Guards to protect the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway from vandalism and unauthorized activities. This initiative was launched by the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who announced the deployment of an initial 40 officers.

Jubril Gawat, the Senior Special Assistant on New Media to the Lagos State Governor, shared this information via his X handle. The guards will be responsible for maintaining a presence on the highway, reporting suspicious activities, restricting hawking, monitoring vandalism, and preventing unauthorized vehicles and loitering.

The team will be led by retired Gen. Adekunle Shodunke and will collaborate with security agencies.

Umahi emphasized that this initiative is not an empowerment program but a full-time job aimed at protecting government assets. He expressed concerns about illegal activities along the highway, including the removal of construction materials.

The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway is a 750-kilometre, 10-lane highway being developed by Hitech Construction Company Limited under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Works.
