Nigerian Government Deploys Police Veterinarians to Protect Livestock and Enhance Food Security

The Nigerian government has deployed police veterinarians to strengthen livestock security and disease control nationwide. This initiative, led by the Ministry of Livestock Development, aims to improve animal health surveillance, enhance vaccination campaigns, and promote peaceful coexistence between farmers and herders.

With over 80 veterinarians and 70 paraprofessionals already deployed, the program leverages the police's presence to monitor livestock health, support vaccination drives, and mediate conflicts at the community level. The move reflects the government's commitment to safeguarding Nigeria's livestock industry and enhancing food security.
