FG Disburses N396.7m Insurance Claims to Farmers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has disbursed N396.7 million in insurance claims to smallholder farmers in Borno, Taraba, Kaduna, and Plateau states, who suffered losses due to erratic weather and climate-related risks. The payout was announced during a ceremony held on Thursday in Abuja, coinciding with the unveiling of the 2025 wet season insurance plan.

Borno state received the largest share of N127.19 million, followed by Taraba with N154.31 million, Kaduna with N69.73 million, and Plateau with N45.47 million. Gboyega Lesi, Chief Executive Officer of Leadway Assurance, emphasized the importance of agricultural insurance as a critical tool for sustaining livelihoods and building resilience against climate shocks.

The initiative reflects a partnership with the PFSCU and aims to enhance food security in Nigeria. The program has captured 43,000 farmers and is designed to mitigate the impact of climate risks on agricultural productivity.
