FG Disburses Nearly N50bn to PHCs, Records 37 Million Visits in Q1 2025

The Federal Government has disbursed nearly N50 billion from the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund (BHCPF) to Primary Health Centers (PHCs) across Nigeria since 2023. Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Pate, revealed that this funding has led to 37 million visits to PHCs in the first quarter of 2025 alone, showcasing the impact of grassroots healthcare reform.

The BHCPF, established under Section 11 of the National Health Act 2014, aims to provide a Basic Minimum Package of Health Services to expand fiscal space for health and modernize healthcare infrastructure nationwide. Pate highlighted investments in rehabilitating and upgrading PHCs in northern states and the FCT, with similar interventions ongoing in southern states.

The administration's commitment to healthcare reform, from primary to tertiary levels, was emphasized, with tangible progress seen in the execution of 300 projects in northern Nigeria. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Health Support Plan was also mentioned as part of the vision for transforming Nigeria.
