FG Donates N5bn to Kano Market Fire Victims

The Federal Government of Nigeria has donated N5 billion to assist victims of the devastating fire at the Singer market in Kano State, which occurred over the weekend. Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed this during a sympathy visit to the market, where properties worth billions of naira were destroyed.

Shettima described the incident as a national tragedy, expressing condolences to the victims and calling on Allah to avert future disasters of such magnitude. During the visit, he was accompanied by governors from Jigawa, Kebbi, and Imo States, as well as Junaid Zakari, the chairman of the Singer market traders association, who commended the federal government's timely gesture.

The fire, which started on Saturday and raged until Sunday, resulted in the destruction of approximately 1,000 shops and kiosks in one of Nigeria's largest commodity hubs. Fire service authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which has severely impacted traders.

Following the market visit, the Vice President proceeded to Sani Abacha Stadium in Kofar Mata, Kano, for a formal reception with State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
