FG, Ebonyi Govt, Security Agencies Probe Mining Pit Collapse In Ishiagu

The Federal Government, Ebonyi State Government, and security agencies are investigating a mining pit collapse in Ishiagu, Ebonyi State. The State Commissioner of Solid Minerals, Chidi Onyia Emmanuel, led an inspection team to the site and dismissed reports that the location was being operated by illegal miners.

Preliminary findings suggest that the collapse may have been caused by a natural occurrence or negligence. The incident resulted in the loss of two lives and injuries to others.

The government expressed its commitment to protecting the lives and livelihoods of its citizens and assured that the investigation would be thorough and transparent. The Commissioner emphasized the importance of safety measures in mining operations and warned against misleading reports, stating that Ebonyi State does not condone illegal mining.
