FOCI and Federal Ministry Launch Youth Construction Training
The Federation of Construction Industry (FOCI), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, has initiated a training program for 200 youths in construction-related trades, supported by the Nigeria Youth Employment through Skills Acquisition Fund (NYESAF) as part of the Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS Project). FOCI President Vincent Barrah stated that the initiative aims to equip young Nigerians with practical skills essential for contributing to the country's infrastructural development.
The training includes 100 participants in masonry, 50 in plumbing, and 50 in carpentry. FOCI Skills Academy, established in 2019, focuses on vocational training to bridge skills and gender gaps in the construction industry.
National Project Coordinator Blessing Ehi-Ogwu emphasized the program's goal to reduce unemployment and social vices by providing sustainable livelihoods. Beneficiaries must maintain at least 65% attendance to qualify for a starter pack and monthly stipend.
Idris Bugaje, Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education, praised FOCI Skills Academy for its commitment to equipping youth with industry-relevant skills.
