FG Sets Deadline for 2027 Budget Submissions

The Federal Government of Nigeria has established September 18, 2026, as the deadline for ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to submit their personnel cost proposals for the 2027 budget. This directive, issued by the Budget Office of the Federation and signed by Director-General Tanimu Yakubu, is intended to facilitate the presentation of the 2027 Appropriation Bill to the National Assembly in September and to enhance the country's budget cycle.

MDAs are required to submit both hard and electronic copies of their proposals by 4 PM on the specified date. The government aims to address concerns regarding the late passage and implementation of annual budgets, which have led to overlaps between fiscal years.

The 2027 budget process is being tightened following controversies from previous budgets, including the allocation of N1.3 billion to the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, which was later disputed. To prevent similar issues, the new budget circular mandates that MDAs submit their Establishment Acts along with budget proposals, with the warning that proposals lacking this documentation may be rejected.
