NRS Debunks Claims of New Vehicle Tax in Nigeria

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has issued a statement refuting claims circulating online about the introduction of a new vehicle tax by the federal government, which was purported to take effect on July 1, 2026. The NRS described the viral infographic as false and misleading, noting that it directed vehicle owners, including private, commercial, and corporate vehicle owners, to make payments through online approved bank agencies.

The statement emphasized that the infographic lacked identifiable authorship and urged the public to rely on verified information from official government channels. Dare Adekanmbi, the spokesperson for the NRS, reiterated that the federal government has not introduced any new vehicle tax, advising the public to disregard the misleading claims and to seek information from the official NRS website.
