NRS Warns Against Fake Vehicle Tax Claims in Nigeria

The Nigeria Revenue Service (NRS) has issued a statement warning Nigerians about a misleading infographic circulating online that falsely claims the introduction of a new vehicle tax effective July 1. The alert was disclosed by NRS Chairman Mr.

Dare Adekambi, who serves as the agency's spokesperson. This clarification comes amid growing concerns over misinformation related to tax policies.

The false claims instructed vehicle owners to make payments through unofficial channels, directing them to a misleading web address instead of the official NRS website. The NRS confirmed that no new vehicle tax has been introduced by the federal government.

This warning precedes the rollout of the Rev360, a new revenue administration platform designed to modernize tax processes in Nigeria, scheduled to go live on April 30. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve tax administration and increase non-oil revenue.

The NRS emphasized the importance of accurate information to maintain public trust and support ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening Nigeria's fiscal position by 2026.
