Nigerian Government Forms Committee to Revive ALSCON for Economic Growth

The Federal Government of Nigeria has set up an 11-member Project Delivery Committee to revitalize the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria (ALSCON) in a move to enhance economic development. The committee includes members from ALSCON, Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC), Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), and the Federal Ministry of Power.

The primary goal of the committee is to expedite the connection of 132kV and 330kV transmission lines to ALSCON to ensure the completion of critical projects. Adebayo Adelabu, a representative of the Federal Ministry of Power, emphasized the importance of reviving ALSCON to positively impact the country's economy by creating jobs and increasing local capacity.

Viacheslav Krylov, a major shareholder in ALSCON through UC Rusal, expressed readiness to collaborate with the government to address challenges in the power sector, especially ensuring a reliable power supply to the plant. The government aims to swiftly operationalize ALSCON to contribute significantly to economic growth.
