FG Insists on Salary Increase for Tinubu, Other Political Office Holders

The Federal Government is standing firm on its decision to review the salary and allowances of political office holders, including President Bola Tinubu and state governors, despite public backlash. The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has started a retreat in Kano to discuss a new remuneration framework for political, public, and judicial office holders nationwide.

The Chairman of the Commission's Remuneration Monetisation Committee, Mohammed Kabeer Usman, defended the exercise as constitutional and necessary, citing the empowerment given by the 1999 Constitution. The RMAFC emphasized the need for the review to be fair, realistic, and sustainable, taking into account economic realities and comparative practices in other countries.

The retreat also aims to harmonize previous reports and addendums into a single framework for implementation. Participants in the retreat include commissioners from various states and the Committee Secretary.
