Nigeria Enhances Water Quality Through New Initiative

The Federal Government of Nigeria has intensified efforts to improve water quality nationwide, led by the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation. This initiative involves a partnership with Nestlé Nigeria Plc and the Organised Private Sector in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene to train personnel on safe water management.

The program is part of the National Water Quality Advocacy Campaign, utilizing the Water Quality Handbook as a standard reference for managing water quality in communities and institutions. Minister Joseph Utsev, represented by Director Habu Jamilu, emphasized the need for a unified approach to tackle water quality challenges.

The handbook offers guidance on protecting water sources and addressing climate change impacts. Dr Nicholas Igwe, National Coordinator of the Organised Private Sector in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, stated that the campaign aims to ensure the safety of water consumed by Nigerians.

He called for stronger involvement from state governments and private-sector participation to effectively translate water quality policies into practical interventions.
