Nestlé and FG Launch Campaign for Safe Drinking Water

Nestlé and FG Launch Campaign for Safe Drinking Water

The Federal Government and Nestlé Nigeria Plc launched a nationwide water quality advocacy campaign in Abuja, aimed at addressing unsafe drinking water and enhancing water safety education in communities across Nigeria. This initiative, in collaboration with the Organised Private Sector in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (OPS-WASH), seeks to shift the focus from mere access to the quality, safety, and sustainability of water.

The campaign was introduced during a National Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on the Water Quality Handbook, which serves as a technical guide for establishing standard procedures in water quality management. Engr. Prof. Joseph Utsev, represented by Director Habu Jamilu, emphasized the need for a unified national approach to water quality management.

The handbook covers various aspects, including source protection and household water treatment. Dr. Nicholas Igwe, representing Nestlé Nigeria, highlighted the company's commitment to providing 400,000 cubic metres of water annually to communities, focusing on water access, quality, governance, and sustainability.
