Nigeria Issues New Petrol Import Permits for Q3 2026

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority has approved fresh import permits for petrol and diesel for the third quarter of 2026, specifically from July to September. This move aims to prevent potential supply shortages in the domestic market.

Companies including AA Rano, Aym Shafa, Bono Energy, Nipco, Matrix Energy, and Pinnacle Oil received permits for importing petrol, with AA Rano allocated 180,000 metric tons, Aym Shafa 120,000 metric tons, and Pinnacle Oil 150,000 metric tons of diesel. This approval follows a previous issuance in May covering 720,000 metric tons.

The latest permits were granted amid concerns over declining fuel stock levels, with petrol stocks decreasing from 1.7 days to 16 days and diesel stocks dropping from eight days to 31 days. The Dangote Petroleum Refinery in Lekki, Lagos, has also seen a 16% drop in gasoline production, prompting regulatory measures to ensure uninterrupted supply across the country.
