Nigeria and U.S. Collaborate to Enhance Livestock Sector

On Friday, 11th July 2026, in Abuja, Hon. Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Honourable Minister of Livestock Development, announced the Federal Government's commitment to collaborate with the U.S. private sector to improve livestock genetics, animal nutrition, and productivity. During a meeting with a delegation led by Mr. Christopher Beieleck from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Maiha emphasized the need for practical partnerships to support Nigeria's livestock industry.

He noted the alignment between the Ministry's priorities and the expertise offered by American companies in areas such as poultry, dairy, and pig production. The Minister called for a shift from broad discussions to actionable collaborations with defined responsibilities and measurable outcomes.

Beieleck highlighted that the U.S. Government is investing approximately $25 million over five years through the Food for Progress program, focusing on poultry, aquaculture, and animal feed value chains.

This engagement aims to leverage Nigeria's large population and expanding livestock market for investment opportunities.
