FG Launches Compensation Scheme for Civil Servants

The Federal Government of Nigeria has launched an employees’ compensation scheme designed to enhance the welfare of civil servants and improve workplace safety. Stella Oduem, the Federal Government's representative, announced the initiative during a commission event in Abuja.

The scheme aims to provide timely compensation and support to civil servants affected by work-related injuries, diseases, disabilities, or death. It complements existing welfare programs, including a group life assurance scheme, and reflects the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration to safeguard the dignity of public servants.

A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) and the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) to ensure the effective implementation of the scheme. NSITF Managing Director Barrister Oluwaseyi Mayomi Faley described the compensation scheme as a significant step towards institutionalizing care and protection for civil servants, supported by a transparent payroll-driven system and an EC help desk for claims and feedback.
