FG Investigates Plateau Mining Incident That Killed 37

The Federal Government has launched a probe into a mining site incident in Plateau State that claimed the lives of 37 miners. The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, with reports indicating that the victims were exposed to poisonous gas emissions while working underground.

The site, located in Zuraq, Wase Local Government Area, has been ordered to shut down to stabilize the situation and enable a thorough investigation. The investigation team, led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, will identify the underlying causes of the tragedy and propose appropriate penalties.

Preliminary findings suggest that the mining company may have resumed activities without proper safety measures, leading to the release of toxic fumes that affected the local community. The site operates under mining license 11810, and the Federal Government has assured that information regarding the investigation's progress will be provided.
