Gas Leak at Plateau Mining Site Claims 37 Lives

On Wednesday morning, a gas leak at a mining site in Kampani Zurak, Wase Local Government Area, Plateau State, led to a catastrophic incident where 37 miners were confirmed dead. Safiyanu Haruna, a miner in the area, reported that the leak, caused by carbon monoxide, occurred around 6:30 AM, shortly after the miners returned from morning prayers.

At least 20 other miners sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital in Wase for treatment. Haruna noted that the incident took place before the morning shift workers had arrived, and there were no rescue operations in place at that time.

The local community is currently holding funeral prayers for the deceased miners. The local government area chairman attended the funeral, but there has been no official comment from the authorities regarding the incident.
