Nigeria Mourns Medical Graduate Killed in Ukraine Strike

The Federal Government of Nigeria expressed profound sorrow over the death of 23-year-old Adaobi Marian Nnani, a medical graduate from Kharkiv National Medical University, who was critically injured during a Russian aerial strike in Kharkiv on June 29, 2026. Following the attack, she was treated in Kharkiv before being transferred to a hospital in Germany, where she succumbed to her injuries on July 5, 2026.

The Nigerian government, through spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, extended heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and colleagues, highlighting the tragic loss and the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Adaobi, who had completed her medical studies and was preparing for graduation, was noted for her academic excellence and dedication to medicine.

The incident serves as a reminder of the human cost of the conflict, which has displaced millions since it began in February 2022. The Nigerian government reiterated its commitment to the welfare of its citizens abroad and called for an immediate cessation of hostilities.
