FG Orders Compulsory Verification of Academic Certificates - Anti-Forgery Move

The Federal Government has mandated Ministries, Departments, Agencies (MDAs), and military formations to conduct compulsory verification of academic certificates starting from October 6, 2025, to combat the proliferation of fake certificates in Nigeria. This directive follows concerns about academic erosion and the spread of counterfeit certificates across the country.

The government has ordered the implementation of the National Policy on Nigeria Education Repository Databank (NERD) to ensure the verification of staff and prospective employees' academic qualifications. The NERD is a digital platform designed to store, manage, preserve, and verify educational records and credentials across various educational institutions in Nigeria.
