Nigeria Enhances Partnerships for Social Protection and Inmate Reintegration

The Nigerian government is intensifying multi-sector partnerships aimed at expanding social protection and facilitating the reintegration of inmates. Dr.

Bernard M. Doro, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, announced this initiative during a high-level engagement in Abuja on Wednesday.

He highlighted the need for a data-driven approach to enhance social protection and improve inmate rehabilitation. The collaboration with the Nigerian Correctional Service, represented by Mr.

Sylvest Ndidi Nwakuch, is crucial for targeting interventions effectively. The ministry aims to utilize the national social register, which currently captures 19.7 million vulnerable households, to ensure no group is excluded from government interventions.

Dr. Doro also outlined a poverty graduation framework to support beneficiaries in achieving economic independence.

The Nigerian Correctional Service expressed appreciation for the ministry's commitment to rehabilitation and proposed vocational training programs to reduce recidivism, emphasizing the need for a structured support system post-release.
