FG Orders Arrest Over Sexual Assault at Delta Festival

The Federal Government of Nigeria has directed the arrest and prosecution of individuals allegedly involved in a sexual assault incident during the Alu Festival, a local event held in Ozoro, Delta State. This directive was issued by Sulaiman Ibrahim, the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, following the circulation of a viral video on Thursday that depicted the alleged assault.

The Minister expressed concern over the reports of women being subjected to harassment and assault during the festival and commended the Delta State Police Command for their swift response. Ibrahim called for a comprehensive investigation to ensure that those implicated are identified and brought to justice without delay.

She described the alleged acts as disturbing and unacceptable, highlighting the violation of human dignity and the rule of law. The Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government's commitment to protecting women and girls, announcing plans to engage traditional rulers and community stakeholders to address harmful practices and prevent future incidents.
