Police Arrest Festival Organizer Over Assault in Ozoro

The Delta State Police Command arrested five individuals, including Chief Omored Sundai, the community head and chief organizer of the Ozoro festival, in connection with alleged sexual assaults on women during the event. The arrests were confirmed by Bright Edaf, the public relations officer, and followed the circulation of a viral video depicting a group of young men allegedly harassing women, forcibly tearing their clothing and subjecting them to molestation.

Reports suggest that some victims may have been raped, although these claims have not been officially confirmed. Aina Adesola, the commissioner of police, ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

Edaf urged witnesses to come forward to assist in the investigation and described the incidents as alarming and embarrassing. Charl Aniagwu, the commissioner for works, condemned the acts as unacceptable and called for festival organizers to implement adequate security measures to prevent future occurrences, reiterating the government's zero-tolerance policy towards gender-based violence.
