Nigeria Withdraws Police Escorts for VIPs Amid Security Crisis

The Federal Government of Nigeria has ordered the immediate withdrawal of police escorts assigned to VIP duties and redeployed officers across the country. This move, announced on Friday by the Minister of Police Affairs, Idris, is part of a strategic shift aimed at enhancing public safety and addressing long-standing concerns regarding police personnel protecting private individuals.

The redeployment is expected to increase security personnel in states such as Kwara, Plateau, Benue, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, and the Federal Capital Territory. This decision follows a deadly terrorist attack in Kwara State, where gunmen reportedly killed at least 75 villagers in Woro community.

The attack occurred on Tuesday at around 5:30 PM, leading to the burning of shops and homes, forcing residents to flee. In response to the violence, President Tinubu has ordered the deployment of an army battalion to Kwara State to reinforce security operations and prevent further attacks.
