Nigeria Reviews COVID-19 Gains, Plans for Future Health Threats

The Federal Government of Nigeria, alongside various partners, convened in Abuja to review the achievements from COVID-19 interventions and strategize for future health threats. The meeting emphasized the need for urgent measures to sustain the gains made during the pandemic.

Daju Kachollom, representing the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, highlighted the importance of investments in health infrastructure, including disease surveillance and laboratory capacity. Dr. Temitope Ilori from NACA noted that lessons learned from the pandemic have improved Nigeria's ability to respond to emerging health threats, such as recent Ebola alerts.

Dr. Tajudeen Ibrahim from the Global Fund discussed the significance of COVID-19 grants, which facilitated substantial investments in health infrastructure, including oxygen generation systems and public health laboratory upgrades. The meeting underscored the necessity of integrating these investments into routine healthcare delivery to ensure long-term sustainability and improved health outcomes in Nigeria.
