FG Partners with Pharma Firm to Boost Family Planning Access

On April 16, 2026, the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare announced a collaboration with Viya Health Nigeria and Incepta Pharmaceuticals to expand access to high-quality family planning solutions across Nigeria. The partnership aims to increase the availability and affordability of innovative contraceptive products, supporting Nigeria's maternal and reproductive health goals.

Dr. Samuel Oyeniyi, the Federal Ministry's Director of Family Health, stated that the initiative follows the World Health Organization's prequalification of Medogen SubQ, the first-generation version of subcutaneous depot medroxyprogesterone acetate (DMPA-SC), developed by Incepta Pharmaceuticals.

This product received prequalification in October 2025, confirming its compliance with global safety and efficacy standards. The collaboration seeks to eliminate supply challenges and improve access to self-injectable contraceptive options for women, targeting a modern contraceptive prevalence rate of 27% by 2030.
