Nigeria Prioritizes Land Reforms for Affordable Housing Access

The Federal Government of Nigeria is prioritizing land administration reforms to expand access to affordable housing for low-income earners, as stated by Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Darma, during the 20th Africa International Housing Show in Abuja. The Director of the Department of Public Building and Housing Development, Temitop Pemi, emphasized that successful housing policies cannot be achieved without an efficient, transparent, and secure land administration system.

Collin Alabi, Director of Land and Housing Development, noted that access to properly documented land is essential for affordable housing. The government aims to modernize land administration systems and digitize land records to improve transparency and reduce transaction costs.

Shuaib Belgor, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, and Margaret Adejobi also highlighted the barriers faced by low-income earners in accessing decent housing, stressing the need for collaboration among government, development partners, and the private sector to address Africa's housing deficit.
