FG Offers Free Land to Investors for Affordable Housing

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Muttaqha Darma, announced its willingness to provide free land to credible investors interested in developing affordable housing projects across Nigeria. This initiative is part of efforts to address the country's significant housing shortage, currently estimated at 17 million units.

During discussions with a Chinese investment delegation, Darma emphasized the government's commitment to working with genuine investors capable of delivering quality housing projects. The government will facilitate access to land in various states and local government areas, subject to legal and regulatory requirements.

The proposed projects aim to not only construct homes but also create employment opportunities and encourage technology transfer. Chief Engineer Lewi Chima, representing the investment delegation, highlighted the potential for large-scale investments to deliver affordable homes to millions of citizens.

The government is also implementing the Renew Hope Housing Program, which includes ongoing projects like the construction of 10,000 housing units across several states.
