FG Investigates Mysterious Flesh-eating Disease Outbreak in Adamawa State

The Federal Government is investigating a mysterious flesh-eating disease outbreak in Adamawa State, which has claimed the lives of seven people. The disease, suspected to be Buruli ulcer, has affected 67 individuals, with eight currently undergoing surgery at Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital.

Dr. Adesigbin Olufemi, the Acting National Coordinator of the National Tuberculosis, Buruli Ulcer, and Leprosy Control Programme, revealed that the disease starts as a boil and progressively eats away flesh, potentially reaching the bone.

While the exact cause is yet to be confirmed, experts suspect Mycobacterium ulcerans, commonly found in swampy environments. The government is implementing measures to contain the outbreak swiftly.
